The concept of the “evil eye” predates Abrahamic religions and is found in every culture. The idea behind it is that harm may befall a person who is given too much attention, even if the attention is positive. By wearing a blue eye, one is able to deflect the negative attention from themselves, onto the eye. Eventually, the eye can break, which means it has successfully protected the wearer from metaphysical harm.
